So you find some lint on your shirt and you pick it off but instead of tossing it into the ashtray to your right, you throw it to your left and it falls onto the floor. Suddenly you realise what it is you just did and you can’t believe that you just acted like an animal instead of a human being. Surely the more civilized thing to do would have been to consider the consequences of simply tossing the dirt onto the floor, like how it would gather and eventually turn your space into a pig pen. However, you still acted like an animal and now having just wondered what really matters in life, you feel conflicted about your existence,

All in all, aren’t human beings just animals too? We eat, sleep, reproduce, leave spoor, experience life just like every other organism on the planet. Well, we don’t exactly experience life like any other animal on the planet really. In actuality, we experience something quite far from it.

There are many arguments as to what “human being” would be defined as. Some would say that it refers to our humanity or compassion, some would claim that it is our sense of community and spirituality, others might suggest that it is the measure of our intelligence and application there of. While there are many perspectives on what being a ‘”human being” truly is, the favoured or most accepted opinion is generally that humans exist intellectually beyond other species and therefore are entitled to the rights of the resources that make up the planet. This is generally presented in the idea that ”if I can grab it, it is mine.” When profit, power or possession are what is sought after, the justification of “if I can do this I should” arises.

This circumstance of our existence generally has human beings searching the same endless loops of yesterday, today and tomorrow for different results. Human’s extension of self awareness outside the logic loops of other animals is both a bridge and barricade, equally providing the potential of creating and destroying what it is that human beings are looking for.
